Fall Gardening and Decorating

The end of our season is quickly approaching with only two weekends left until we close! Now is the time to come on in and pick up some great deals. Please note that we are closed on Thanksgiving Monday.

These wonderful warm and sunny days plus many warm nights have made fall gardening very enjoyable. Our Garden Mums are available and are colourful, and available in many sizes. Planters with great combinations of grasses, perennials, herbs and other plants will show beautifully at your front entrance, deck or in the garden.

People often ask if those mums are winter hardy. Our mums in 2016 have been selected for uniformity, colour, flexibility, disease resistance and many more aspects. While mums are more cold tolerant than most plants, they are still not able to take a frost.Fall Gardening and Outdoor Decorating in Kitchener

Take it as a bonus if garden mums are coming back next spring. The best chances for overwintering of mums are along the foundation of a house or a sloping flowerbed with drainage. Trim them back late November to about 4’’-6’’(10-15cm) and cover them with 6’’-8’’ of mulch, leaves, soil or peat moss.

Uncover them late April and give them lots of water.

But we also think beyond mums. We have a great selection of fall plants, both annuals and perennials that would brighten up the front of any home. Think about adding some tall purple and green kale or a large cabbage to your garden or planter.

We also carry locally grown pumpkins, corn stalks and bales of locally grown straw. You’re sure to impress thanksgiving guests and trick-or-treaters with fall plants and décor from Greenway.
